Movie Review – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

by Francis Lawrence

by Francis Lawrence

‘Katniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage.’ (IMDb) (by Francis Lawrence, 123 min.)

I wan’t really impressed by this movie. I must say that this wasn’t my favorite book either. The entire first part of the book was just so uneventful and a lot of talking, what this movie also was. The few bits of action we get to see are such a small part of the story that the rest is just so long.

We get to see how they try to turn Katniss in the image of the revolution, of which she wants no part. We get to see a part of her that we didn’t see before. For the first time in the movies she didn’t have to fight in the games, but she is stuck in a foreign place with people she doesn’t know.

I have the feeling that this entire movie was just a build-up for something bigger, that we didn’t see yet. I’m certain that the next movie will be full of action again and more like we know of the Hunger Games.

3,5 out of 5 stars… I didn’t love it, but it was still an interesting story.

Movie Review -The Maze Runner

by Wes Ball

by Wes Ball

‘Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they’re all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow “runners” for a shot at escape.’ (IMDb) (by Wes Ball, 113 min.)

I kind of liked this movie. I didn’t read the book beforehand so I didn’t know what would happen. And I was gladly surprised by this film and the direction the story took.

I liked the most of the movie. Everything in the maze was so amazing! It was entertaining. It was exciting and it drew me in from the start of the film and it continued to take me through this exciting world the entire way.

But, I wasn’t entirely happy with the end of the film. I’ll probably see how they continue it in the next film, but I would have liked to see it play out differently.

Dylan O’Brien was good as show runner! I hoped he would do it good and he delivered what I wanted and more! It was refreshing to see him take on a what bigger action-packed role. He played everything with a nice balance between kindness and being hard to achieve what he wants.

I give this film a 3,5 out of 5 stars
